AU Optronics: No micro LED display product roadmap

According to DIGITIMES, AU Optronics (AUO) said that despite the successful development of related technologies, the company does not currently have a specific roadmap and production schedule for Micro Led Display products.

AUO demonstrated the prototype of the TFT-driven 8-inch micro LED display device and other advanced display products and technologies during the recently concluded SID Display Week 2018. The micro LED display was also awarded the “Best in Show Award” for the mid-size display product category.

According to company data, AUO's micro LED technology uses LTPS-TFT backplane to independently illuminate each pixel for even finer images with high dynamic range and energy saving advantages.

AUO said micro LEDs smaller than 30 microns can achieve high pixel densities of up to 169ppi and produce better and more accurate colors when integrated with other color conversion technologies.

Michael Tsai, president and chief operating officer of the company, said the award demonstrates AUO's leadership in advanced display technology over the years and will drive AUO to continue to develop innovative display technologies.

During the SID, AUO also demonstrated a series of mini LED-backlit LCD panels with high brightness and high dynamic range for game displays, gaming notebooks and VR headset applications.
